Landscape Design

Summary:

In this project, the relationship between site and the individual grave marker was challenged, Modern cemeteries usually contain man-made graves of stone amidst a serene landscape. In this cemetery, I attempt to reverse this relationship creating landscaped markers in a field of stone and concrete.

Contribution: I was the landscape architect and drafter for this project. This project was particularly challenging as all the drawings were generated by hand without CAD.
Process: This project deals with designing a cemetery in Athens, Georgia. The site is situated adjacent to a moderately busy road and a large park. It is proposed that this site be flanked by other similar in scale cemeteries in the future. Of great interest to me in this project was the creation of a rigorous order that resonates in various scales to create repetitive patterns of proportion and form.
